US Chargé d'Affaires Heide B. Fulton and Guillermo Bueso, CEO of Banco Atlántida, signed new Fulbright - Banco Atlántida Agreement

The Fulbright - Banco Atlántida Agreement is still unique in its nature since the financial institution is the only private organization in Latin America and the Caribbean that collaborates with the United States Government in the Fulbright Program.

Tegucigalpa, August 28th, 2017. - The US Government and Banco Atlántida signed the new Fulbright - Banco Atlántida Agreement which will continue to provide funds to sponsor scholarships for young Honduran professionals for them to complete their post-graduate studies at American universities. Banco Atlántida has committed to finance up to two annual scholarships for master's studies in business administration, economics, finance, and related fields. This new agreement is the result of an initial agreement signed in 2014 when Banco Atlántida granted $ 600,000 for six scholarships and these were approved by the Fulbright Scholarship Board and by the United States Department of State.

Under this new Fulbright - Banco Atlántida agreement, an indefinite term commitment is established to grant up to two annual scholarships with an approximate investment of $100,000 per scholarship grantee. In line with Fulbright´s vision, Banco Atlántida aims to support candidates with outstanding academic performance, leadership potential, limited experience abroad and solid plans to return to Honduras to contribute with their knowledge and experience.

The Fulbright - Banco Atlántida Scholarship Program made its first call in 2015 and to date, six outstanding young Honduran professionals have received scholarships, pursuing their master's degrees at universities such as Brandeis, Vanderbilt, Purdue, University of Illinois, American University and Ohio State University.

The Fulbright - Banco Atlántida scholarships adhere to the Fulbright program selection and standard procedures. Applications to the Fulbright - Banco Atlántida Scholarship are submitted when the US Embassy makes the call for the Fulbright Scholarships in February of each year. The U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa coordinates the application and selection process while Banco Atlántida, provides the funds to cover the academic costs, the maintenance stipend, and the round-trip ticket.

On his behalf, Mr. Guillermo Bueso said "I encourage young Honduran professionals to imagine, believe, and succeed by taking advantage of this wonderful opportunity offered by the Fulbright - Banco Atlántida Program".
