The Fulbright and Banco Atlántida alliance is a life transforming opportunity

Up to date, eight young professionals have been awarded as Fulbright-Banco Atlántida scholars, each becoming promises for the development of Honduras.

The program that emerged in 2014 marked the first time in Central America that a private organization has collaborated with the U.S. Government on the Fulbright Program. As a result of the partnership established between the Government of the United States and Banco Atlántida, has paid off by changing the lives of 8 scholarship holders and has generated enormous interest in the Honduran professional youth due to the opportunities the Fulbright - Banco Atlántida scholarship represent: the prestige of becoming a selected scholar and the high educational level obtained abroad.

The Fulbright–Banco Atlantida Agreement marks the first time in Central America that a private organization has collaborated with the U.S. Government on the Fulbright Program. The US$ 600,000 contribution established in the agreement to increase the amount of scholarships for Hondurans to attend U.S. universities was approved by the Fulbright Scholarship Board and the U.S. Department of State.

In 2016, Jorge Baide and José Alejandro Sabillón, were announced as the first generation of Honduran Fulbright-Banco Atlántida scholarship holders to pursue a master's degree in International Economics and Finance at Brandeis University in Massachusetts and an MBA at Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University, respectively.

Currently, the second and third generation of scholarship holders are pursuing master's degrees in business administration and law at renowned institutions such as Purdue University in Indiana, University of Illinois / Urbana-Champaign, American University in Washington, D.C. and Moritz College of Law at Ohio State University.

The most recent generation of scholarship holders is the result of the institutional alliance agreement renewal to continue granting scholarships to more Honduran professionals. At this moment, the latest pair of chosen scholars are going through application processes coordinated by the U.S. Embassy to define the master's degree and the university they will be attending on fall 2019 in the United States of America.

Undoubtedly, the Fulbright - Banco Atlántida scholarship program has sealed a positive impact on Honduran scholars who have been privileged with the opportunity to strengthen their educational level and become agents of change in our nation by generating a multiplier effect.

The program began with a budget allocation of $ 600,000 sponsored by Banco Atlántida for 2 Hondurans to go specialize each year in the United States before returning to Honduras and serving the country for a minimum of two years.
